Biography

Bruno Langley was born in a self-described “hippie commune” in Wayland, Norfolk. His father was a maker of ocarina flutes and encouraged his children's musical interests, with Langley taking to the cello. However, he also followed his mother into amateur theatre, and ultimately began training at the North Cheshire Theatre School. Langley's time there came to a premature end when he was cast in Linda Green. Shortly afterwards, he took a minor role in Coronation Street, which led to him being invited back in the regular role of Todd Grimshaw at the start of 2001. Langley's character began very popular, and made history as the programme's first openly gay character.

Langley left Coronation Street in 2004, and he was almost immediately cast as short-lived companion Adam Mitchell in Doctor Who. Intentionally designed to demonstrate that not everybody had the temperament to travel in the TARDIS, Adam appeared alongside the Ninth Doctor, as played by Christopher Eccleston, in 2005's Dalek and The Long Game. Langley also appeared in the 2005 movie The League Of Gentlemen's Apocalypse and two episodes of Dalziel And Pascoe. His relationship with beautician Victoria Roscoe, begun in 2004, led to the birth of son Freddie in 2007; the couple split up in 2012.

Langley tried to focus his career on the stage, often in musical productions, but his inconsistent success occasionally forced him to find other work, including as a bartender. Having made occasional appearances in Coronation Street over the years, he finally decided to return to the show full-time in 2013. In 2017, however, Langley was fired after facing two charges of sexual assault stemming from an incident at a music venue in Manchester; he later plead guilty. His acting career effectively over, Langley turned his attention back to his music. Having already issued an EP called Jump in 2016, he began releasing new singles in 2020.
