Biography

Daniel O'Hara was born in Dublin, Ireland and completed a postgraduate diploma in film production at the Dublin Institute of Technology. He got his start in television as a camera operator, which led to an opportunity to direct segments for the game show It's A Family Affair. O'Hara then worked on a variety of magazine programmes, as well as the darkly comical A Scare At Bedtime and children's shows like The Attic. He gained attention for his award-winning short films Yu Ming Is Ainm Dom (2003) and Fluent Dysphasia (2004). Their success facilitated O'Hara's shift into drama, starting with The Clinic in 2006. He then co-created Paddywhackery before moving to the United Kingdom, where he initially directed episodes of Inspector George Gently.

During the early 2010s, O'Hara directed for shows like Being Human, Silent Witness and Wizards Vs Aliens. The latter brought him to the attention of the Doctor Who production team, as a result of which he made 2015's eerie Under The Lake / Before The Flood for Peter Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor. Subsequent work included Victoria and Brassic. Amongst O'Hara's credits during the Twenties were The Stranger and Stay Close.
