Biography

Born in Kent and a graduate of Bristol University, Jacquetta May spent the first decade of her acting career on the stage. She finally made her television debut in a 1990 episode of The Bill. The following year, May joined the cast of EastEnders, and she remained on the soap opera until 1993. Other regular roles during the Nineties included Cardiac Arrest, Dangerfield and Home Farm Twins. A rare movie part came in the coming-of-age story Get Real. May also co-founded the Plain Clothes Productions theatre company, for which she was both a producer and a director.

May began to move into television scriptwriting at the turn of the century, starting with an episode of Where The Heart Is in 2000. Although acting remained her focus -- including appearances in Cold Feet, Holby City and Silent Witness -- she earned a steady stream of writing credits over the next decade as well. May co-created the children's programme UGetMe, and contributed to New Tricks, Personal Affairs, and the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood. Her involvement with the latter took the form of the offbeat 2006 adventure Random Shoes, which adopted the unusual approach of showcasing a brand-new character, the ghostly Eugene Jones. Amongst May's acting credits during the 2010s were Being Human, Law & Order: UK and Midsomer Murders, while she wrote for Living The Dream. In the Twenties, she had a supporting role in the crime drama Ridley.
