Biography

Scottish-born Jamie Magnus Stone graduated from the Film and Television program at the Edinburgh College of Art. During his time there, he made a number of a short films starting with 2006's Fritz. In 2010, Stone directed music videos for Scottish singer-songwriter Tommy Reilly. That year and the next, he trained at the National Film and Television School. In 2013, Stone made two Doctor Who mini-episodes: Clara And The TARDIS, a DVD and Blu-ray special feature, and The Last Day, an online release which tied in with the fiftieth-anniversary special, The Day Of The Doctor. He soon began working regularly in television, directing for programmes such as The Village, Tripped, X Company and Queens Of Mystery.

Stone returned to Doctor Who for its 2020 season, which featured Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor. He was tasked with four episodes, including the opening installment of Spyfall -- the season premiere which introduced Sacha Dhawan's incarnation of the Master -- and the season finale, Ascension Of The Cybermen / The Timeless Children. Stone was back for the pandemic-abbreviated 2021 season, tackling three episodes of the epic-length Flux. He then handled Whittaker's exit from Doctor Who in the 2022 special The Power Of The Doctor.
