Biography

Julian Holmes earned his first television credits in the early Nineties, as an assistant floor manager on shows like Sleepers. He was promoted to first assistant director later that decade, and he worked in this capacity on Jonathan Creek. It wasn't long before Holmes became a fully-fledged director, and he counted EastEnders, Casualty and Emmerdale Farm amongst his early assignments. After the turn of the century, he directed for programmes such as Attachments, No Angels, Spooks and Law & Order: UK. By the 2010s, Holmes was working on both sides of the Atlantic, with projects including episodes of Strike Back, Beowulf: Return To The Shieldlands, Daredevil and Outlander. In 2016, he made The Lost, the final episode of the Doctor Who spin-off Class. Holmes remained prolific during the Twenties, with assignments on Noughts + Crosses, The Boys and Carnival Row.
