Biography

Having worked as a camera operator and then a vision mixer since the late Seventies, Stuart McDonald began his directing career on the soap opera Triangle in the early Eighties. He soon focussed on documentary and quiz programmes, such as QED and Brainstorm. McDonald's involvement with the Children In Need charity appeal led him to direct Dimensions In Time, a pair of segments for the 1993 telethon which also celebrated Doctor Who's thirtieth anniversary. Other work during the Nineties included Bygones, Here And Now and Parkinson. As reality television became popular in the twenty-first century, McDonald regularly directed for shows like The Apprentice: You're Fired! and Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two. Other credits included Pointless, The Chase, and various awards and special events programmes. McDonald died in an automobile accident on April 12th, 2021.
